It was dusk on the campus grounds as a young girl stepped out of the brightly lit student hall, pulling the backdoor shut behind her. A vagrant breeze picked up loose strands of dark hair as she stood still and warily looked around. The evening air was mild and pleasant, but still she shivered slightly as she scanned the silhouetted branches of the trees across the road very carefully

It had been a beautifully sunny late spring day. Yet for some reason, Sarah Williams felt like a major thunderstorm was brewing. If she’d lived in Kansas she’d have been bolting the cellar doors by now. Even that was probably pointless. She had been tense and jumpy, and her hair—only hers, she’d noticed, looking around her classroom—crackled with static electricity. The lead of her mechanical pencil had broken off twelve times in a one-hour lecture, and if she hadn’t have switched to her Biro, she was pretty sure it would have made thirteen. Her roommate’s hamster had fled to the furthest corner of its cage each time she came near.

Sarah was perfectly capable of picking up a subtle hint.

Eventually, she relaxed her tight grip on the doorknob. There was no suspicious white shadow in the trees tonight; the only encounters she’d have to worry about crossing the park were the usual drunken frat boys, muggers, and rapists. With a small sigh of relief, she set down her book bag and turned around to lock the door behind her. She wore a plain blue jeans and a shirt probably no one else would understand. It was a plain white shirt with the text 'Not even if you moved the stars' across the chest.

How you turn the world my precious thing

It was a daunting and meaningless existence, dark, paralyzing eyes staring out at the cold world that was his life. Jareth only had one option to save this kingdom of his, to keep the title Goblin King without fear of watching his beautiful labyrinth fall to pieces. He had to call on her, he had to trick her. Her, her, her. His mind was clouded with thoughts of the teenage Sarah, her eyes weak and helpless when he’d first seen her-turned into cold and nearly hate filled, it was intoxicating. A crystal ball was moving fluidly between his gloved fingers keeping pace with the sound of the ticking clock to his right. What was he going to do? This plan of his seemed nearly full proof-it had no loop holes and every chance to lock the woman that remained on his mind into the very world that he held dear to him. The sound of a door opening tore Jareth’s eyes from the clear crystal and off towards the source, a goblin shaking quite a bit underneath the intense blue gaze that was his kings.

"Yes?" That seemed to be the ice breaker, tearing the poor goblin from its violent convulsions to respond with a high pitched-yet hoarse-'Everything's prepared for your arrival'. This pleased the Goblin King, his torso slowly gathering the strength to sit up straight rather then remain in his lounging position. "Is that so? Well then, lets not keep them waiting." His deep voice was gruff, tired in nature as he stood up slowly, the crystal entertainment disappearing from sight with the lighthearted wave of a hand-and just like that, Jareth the Goblin King, had vanished from sight as well.

--

The white-blonde mullet styled hair was the first to appear, body following suit as his entire frame leaned back against a tree. Jareth would be waiting in this tree lined place until he received word of the girl's whereabouts, finding that the crystals only showed him what either heart wanted-not fact. He was becoming rather frustrated, staring down at the crystal as it tripled with his finger movements. This would keep him calm, keep the Goblin King sane while he waited in the shadows for confirmation that Sarah was still in the vicinity.

Your eyes can be so cruel, just as I can be so cruel.

Return to Labyrinth [Freetos&Xombie] Youreyescanbesocruel

Locking the door to her dorm behind her, Sarah picked up her bag and started across the park. She was planning to stay with a friend for the weekend since her roommate had gone back to her folk's place for a visit. The vibes she had been getting all day had her more than a bit paranoid. She looked up at the sky, the setting sun had stained the sky a blood red. It was times like this that reminded her of... Him. Sarah ran a hand through her hair and took a deep breath. She had convinced herself long ago that it had been a dream.

Yet...

She couldn't stop thinking about it. Especially now when she was having so many dreams about it. The last had been more than a little disturbing. The last thing she had ever said to the Goblin King was 'You have no power over me.' It had seemed to break any hold he had had over her, but in her dream, as she said those words to him. Jareth had smirked in his usual way and taken her face in his hands. He had lowered his face to hers and whispered, barely loud enough for her to hear.

Oh, but I do.

She had awoken at that point. She has had that dream three nights in a row. It always ended at that part. It made her wonder now if Jareth had let her win. Sarah shook her head vigorously. It was a dream, damn it! A dream! It had to be.... She barely noticed where she was walking anymore, absorbed in her thoughts as she was. She knew the way to her friends by heart, and her feet carried her there without her thinking.

She stopped abruptly.

She was in a narrow tree-lined path. This wasn't the way to Jessica's. Shitshitshitshit. How the hell had she gotten lost? She had been living here for three years now.

Return to Labyrinth [Freetos&Xombie] Jareth-1

It was the color of the sky that set his mind ablaze once more, the blood-bath washing of the air above him racing over the horizon with a near battle-like cry. Jareth heard it, he wondered if anyone else could hear it too. This world was so foreign to him, so…boring. There were no rapid twists of the trees or a beast lurking down the dim-lit pavements. The Goblin King smirked at this, people in this dimension truly did live out their lives as spoiled and rotten to the core…he could very well like these breeding ants. The wind dancing through the leaves were the next rustling sound to reach his covered ears, brushing back the blonde locks in order to listen to its story before grabbing a fallen green plant from mid air.

Dark eyes examined the green, dying form of life; and all he could think of was You too, huh? You and me both then. It was a depressing thought, letting the wind carry off the carcass with all the love it could offer. It was then, and only then, that one of the goblins he’d sent to search for the child came back. “Y-your majesty, sir!” It’s voice was even worse then the one Jareth had used so little of, raspy and low-dead sounding. He was not one to judge, but he believed that those that lived under his rule became crueler in nature as he did. The Goblin King was no longer interested in helping Sarah out, oh no, there were no more lessons to be taught. He wanted her-he wanted her to feel his pain and encase her in the mental suffrage that could only be brought with the now revamped labyrinth. It was all done in preparation; male meets child, tricks her into wishing he were no more, then wait mere moments until she crumbled and wanted him back-knowing the rules of the game due to one of the many that had lived under him. Hoggle, or Hogwart or Hubble-whatever he was called, he was put in charge as her guide for a second time. That is, if Sarah wished the Goblin king be taken away by the very creatures who served him…

“Let me guess, the girl-she’s walking our way.” Jareth questioned in a monotonous voice, acting as though he held no interest in the current conversation. “M-my liege, how did you-” Once again the poor critter was cut off by the bladed words of his master, dark blue eyes staring down at the crystal in front of him. “Because, our esteemed guest is staring at me…no, staring through me.” His eyes flickered upwards from the glassy material in the center of his palm, the tug of a smirk reaching only one corner of his lips as the ball ‘accidentally’ dropped from his grip. The ever certain crystal rolled to its target, Jareth’s eyes never once leaving the girl-or should he say woman now? After all, it looked as though this world aged you faster as well. She was no longer a teenager, no…she had grown into someone worth oogling at, creating a sexual appeal for herself yet keeping that familiarity to her that led the Goblin King to believing she WAS Sarah. Jareth waited, watched, wanted the dark haired female to pick up the crystal-to see her reflexion slowly alter into the image of her hearts desire, to confuse her. No longer was the Goblin King a good force to reckon with, no, he had become manipulative-his wants were now far greater then little miss Sarah’s needs.

And the blonde was more then ready to prove this very fact.

Return to Labyrinth [Freetos&Xombie] __Labyrinth__

Chewing on her lip, Sarah looked around. How in God's name had she gotten lost? Yes, she'd not been paying attention, but she had done much the same many times and had never gotten lost before. The shadows were lengthening around the park. Soon night would be upon her and it would be a chore to find her way around campus in the dark. A rustling noise caught her attention, a dull thud against her foot forced a startled squeak from her lips. She looked down at what had hit her.

Oh God...

Sarah closed her eyes, shut out the sight of the crystal laying innocently at her feet. Sarah would have given anything to deny what she had just seen. She took a deep breath and counted to five. When she opened her eyes, the crystal would be gone. It had been a figment of her over-active imagination. She opened her dark brown eyes and looked down for a second time. Nope. It was still there. She took another deep, calming breath before she bent to pick it up. The crystal was smooth and fine, its surface surprisingly warm, as though it had been handled recently....

She glanced around, but the shadows were deep now and showed no one. She looked at the crystal again. She was just over-reacting. It was just a glass ball. Someone had obviously dropped it by mistake. Probably a theatre student. That was it, yes, it was a prop. A rueful grin teased the corners of her lips. That's what it was. Her grin widened as she lifted the crystal to eye level, looking into it and smiling at the way it distorted everything beyond.

A face flashed across the face of the crystal, startling a gasp from Sarah. She shook her head to clear it. Obviously mid-terms had her more worn out than she had thought. She glanced at the crystal again, and her mouth promptly fell open. The last person in the world she wanted to see smirked up at her. A dark, velvety voice sounded in her mind.

It'll show you your dreams.

She swallowed the lump in her throat. Oh, Jareth was in her dreams all right. Her nightmares as well. She cast another look around the area, but all she saw was shadowy trees and brushes. Nothing to be alarmed at...

Return to Labyrinth [Freetos&Xombie] Jareth-1-1

That journey the crystal took was an interesting one-and by interesting Jareth meant long and annoying. It wasn’t until Sarah noticed what lay within her dreams lurking around mysteriously that he made his next move.

“Hello, Sarah.”

Jareth’s voice was echoing like an unfriendly hiss in this tree lined area, he remained hidden in the shadows however, enjoying the display of disgust, disbelief and horror across the young one’s face. Just at the sight of the glass-smooth ball she’d gasped, that sharp inhale nothing compared to what she’d be doing if he came into sight. Perhaps run? Perhaps not. The crystal looked like it had captured her thoughts, embodied them into the clear device before his hand reached out-only to return to his side loyally. It was a now or never decision, his body rising from the shadows despite the plea not to from his loyal minions on either side.

“It’s been a long while, hasn’t it? Do you miss the labyrinth? It’s changed a lot since you’ve left.”

The Goblin King shook off a goblin from his leg as he walked out into the open, features highlighted underneath the brilliant moon above Sarah’s head. He stared up at it for a moment before he began, walking towards her calmly until his body vanished, melding into the air around him.

“Don’t you wish I were gone? Am I a nuisance to your dreams…that aching memory…you could easily compare it to when you’d lost your little baby brother, can’t you?” He began; his back against a second tree as he watched her from behind. This toying around thing was his specialty, and he’d only gotten better at egging others on in the past few years. “Well, Sarah?” Jareth asked, toying with the crystal he’d taken from her when he’d disappeared to stare down at it-his own smirking reflection staring up at his eyes. That was interesting, this really wasn’t one sided-he’d been plaguing her dreams, or nightmares depending on how it was looked at. The mullet-styled blonde waited patiently for the reply, the stutter or the possible panic attack-the Goblin King just wanted A reaction, something to feed off of before continuing.
